Former Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Bob Huggins, in his 15th season as the West Virginia Mountaineers' head coach, is among six players, four coaches and one official who are finalists for consideration for election to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2022.
The Class of 2022 will be announced in New Orleans on April 2 at the NCAA Men's Final Four.
From @hoophall via Twitter:
Huggins, 68, agreed in Aug. 2021 to a two-year contract extension as WVU's head coach that includes an option for him to step aside or continue after the 2023-24 season.
Huggins ranks eighth in wins among coaches at Div. I programs with 842. Including wins as a head coach at NAIA Walsh from 1980 to 1983, his total is 913. His 900th career win came in WVU's NCAA Tournament first-round victory last March.
Huggins told The Enquirer last June that he has no plans to retire anytime soon.
In March 2021, Huggins was not among nine players and five coaches announced as finalists for consideration for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2021.
Huggins' record at UC from 1989 to 2005 was 399-127.
