Have the Bengals ever made the Super Bowl? Yes.

Newer generations of Cincinnati Bengals fans may not know the players who twice faced the San Francisco 49ers in the team's two Super Bowls in the 1980s.

Super Bowl XVI was Jan. 24, 1982, at the Pontiac Silverdome and Super Bowl XXIII was Jan. 22, 1989, at Joe Robbie Stadium, Miami, Florida. 

The following is a refresher of starting lineups and notable reserve players from each bowl game. 

Super Bowl XVI starting lineup

Wide receivers

Cris Collinsworth – It was his rookie season and the future media star caught five passes for 107 yards.

Isaac Curtis – He had three catches for 42 yards.The four-time Pro Bowler has been in the hotel management industry locally with Winegardner and Hammons.

Tackles

Anthony Munoz – The left tackle was in the second season of his NFL Hall of Fame career.

Mike Wilson – With Munoz on the left, Wilson was the starting right tackle and was a Bengal between 1978-1985. 

Guards

Dave Lapham – Starting at left guard, Lapham was a Bengal between 1974-1983. After football, Lapham entered the media and has been the long-time color analyst on the Bengals Radio Network. 

Dave Lapham played on the first Bengals Super Bowl team and has been a fixture in the radio booth.

Max Montoya – Starting at right guard, Montoya was in his third year with the Bengals.

Center

Blair Bush – The former first-round pick played in the NFL for 17 seasons for the Bengals, Seahawks, Packers and Rams. He now lives in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area working in operations, facilities and finance.

Tight end

Dan Ross – Ross had 11 catches for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Ross died at age 49 in 2004 n New Hampshire.

Quarterback

Ken Anderson – An inaugural selection into the Bengals Ring of Honor, Anderson was the NFL MVP and Bert Bell Award winner in 1981. He was with the Bengals as a player from 1971-1986 and then again as a coach from 1993-2002. The four-time Pro Bowl pick has twice been a finalist for the NFL Hall of Fame and has been nominated numerous times.

Running backs

Charles Alexander – The former LSU back had 2,645 yards for the Bengals between 1979-1985. 

Pete Johnson – A member of Ohio State's All-Century team, Johnson gained 5,626 yards in the NFL, most of it with the Bengals between 1977-1983. He made the Pro Bowl in 1981, gaining 1,077 yards.

Kicker

Jim Breech–it was Breech's second season with the Bengals and he had three extra points in the game. 

Defensive ends

Eddie Edwards–The former first-round pick was in year five with the Bengals.

Ross Browner–The former first-round pick out of Notre Dame was a Bengal from 1978-1986. He passed away earlier this year from COVID-19 complications at age 67.

Nose tackle

Wilson Whitley – Whitley was a Bengal from 1977-to 1982. He died at age 37 in 1992 due to a heart condition.

Linebackers

Bo Harris – In the Bengals 1981 3-4 scheme, Harris was the left outside linebacker. 

Jim LeClair – LeClair started as the left inside linebacker and played for the Bengals between 1972-1983. LeClair died in November 2019 at age 69.
