As students in Cincinnati's Catholic schools prepare to go back to class next week, teachers will be facing new COVID-19 rules in response to the federal government's stance on private companies with 100 or more employees.Employees with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati will have to get a COVID-19 vaccine or be subject to wearing a mask and weekly COVID-19 tests, in accordance with a mandate issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.In early November, the Biden administration along with the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced details of a requirement for employers with 100 or more employees to ensure each of their workers is fully vaccinated or tests for COVID-19 on at least a weekly basis.The Archdiocese of Cincinnati sent out a memo obtained by WLWT that states teachers and employees who are not fully vaccinated by Monday will have to wear face coverings inside the building. Teachers and other school employees who are not fully vaccinated by Feb. 9 will have to undergo COVID-19 testing every seven days and show the negative result before returning. All employees who are fully vaccinated must show proof of vaccination status.Per guidance from the Catholic church and Archbishop Dennis Schnurr, it is "morally acceptable" to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and the church recommends Moderna and Pfizer over Johnson & Johnson."The decision to be vaccinated or not vaccinated resides with the individual alone and must never be compelled," the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's memo stated.Employees with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati are not required to get the COVID-19 vaccine. However, leaders said the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's policy on masks and testing for the unvaccinated is complying with the requirements of OSHA.
