Former Wilmington High School and Cincinnati Bearcats standout Jarron Cumberland signed a 10-day contract with the Portland Trail Blazers via the NBA's Hardship Exception, the team announced Sunday.
Last week, Cumberland was named the MVP of the 2021 NBA G League Winter Showcase after he and the Delaware Blue Coats, the Philadelphia 76ers' G League affiliate, won the Winter Showcase championship. The Blue Coats, the top seed in the tournament, defeated the No. 8 Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the No. 4 South Bay Lakers and the No. 6 Oklahoma City Blue.
Cumberland, acquired by Delaware in October from Raptors 905, had 20 points, five rebounds and five assists against Fort Wayne. He recorded a triple-double - with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists - against South Bay. And he scored 24 with eight rebounds and six assists against Oklahoma City.

The event - an in-season NBA scouting opportunity spanning four days with more than 30 games spread across two courts - took place in Las Vegas earlier this week at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. It featured a single-elimination tournament with eight teams competing for the Showcase Cup Championship.
