This year, the eight-day celebration of Hanukkah will take place from the evening of Nov. 28 through nightfall on Dec. 6. An additional candle is lit on the Hanukkah menorah each night.
Hanukkah, one of the most widely known Jewish holidays, celebrates the rededication of the temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of one day's worth of oil lasting for eight days after Syrian Greeks defiled the Jerusalem Temple before they were defeated by the Maccabees, a group of Jewish soldiers.
