The Purple People Bridge is officially reopening to the public on Friday.
The bridge between Newport and downtown Cincinnati closed May 11 after a large stone fell from the bridge into the first pier on the Cincinnati side and created a safety hazard. Other stones were loosened as well, and it remains closed on the Ohio side.
The bridge has been partially open to pedestrians on the Newport side since July 1.
The Newport Southbank Bridge Co. said in a press release that the organization received grants totaling up to about $250,000 to help repair the Purple People Bridge.
According to a press release, the bridge will reopen Friday with a private ribbon cutting with donors and public officials at 5 p.m.
At around 6 p.m., the bridge will be lit for the Winter Nights River Lights display which the public is welcome to attend.
