Jets score in first quarter for first time this season vs. Bengals

New York Jets quarterback Mike White (5) drops back to pass in the first quarter during a Week 8 NFL football game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

New York Jets quarterback Mike White made his first National Football League start, in place of the injured Zach Wilson.

But White looked cool, calm and collected in completing all seven of his pass attempts on his first drive as a starter, and Michael Carter's 8-yard touchdown run gave the Jets their first points scored in the first quarter of a game this season and an early 7-0 lead.

The Jets had six first downs on their opening drive. They entered Sunday's game with eight first-quarter first downs through their first six games of the season.

White finished the game with 405 passing yards, three touchdown passes that included the game-winner to former Bengals tight end Tyler Kroft and a catch of the two-point conversion that gave the Jets the three-point lead with which they'd win, 34-31.
