It appears the depth of Xavier University's men's basketball team will be tested early this season.
Junior Zach Freemantle, who was recently a first-team All-Big East Conference preseason selection, is out "indefinitely" with a lingering foot injury, according to a report from CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

Freemantle spoke to The Enquirer last week at Big East Media Day and said the foot injury had already sidelined him for "about eight weeks."
Rothstein reported that Freemantle "hopes to return to by Big East play in December."

If that's the case, that means Freemantle, who led Xavier in scoring (16.1) and rebounding (8.9) last season, would miss several key non-conference games against Ohio State, Oklahoma State and Cincinnati.
Without Freemantle, the emergence of Dieonte Miles and the arrival of Iowa transfer Jack Nunge become even more important early in the season.
The Enquirer is working to gather more information and will update this story.
