Only 80 days have passed since the end of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo -- but the start of the next Olympics is now, suddenly, just 100 days away.
Olympic organizers are already making final arrangements for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, which will begin Feb. 4. Olympic test events in China are underway. The first set of COVID-19 protocols have been released. And before you know it, the world's top figure skaters, snowboarders and curlers will once again be taking center stage.
This will be the first time the Summer and Winter Games have been held so close to one another since 1992. Up to that point, they were held in the same year. Beijing is poised to become the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics.
These Games will not be without controversy. Human rights groups have repeatedly called for the postponement and/or boycott of the Games, due to China's human rights abuses -- an issue that figures to draw an even brighter spotlight as the Olympics near.
