Southwest Ohio DII, III golfers ready for state; DI plays districts

As Ohio boys and girls golfers in Division II and III get ready for state on Friday and Saturday, the Division I athletes are just getting to qualify for the final meet.

Division I plays a week behind Division II and III, giving the OHSAA golf season just two more weekends of play.

Fenwick represents the Division II girls in the state meet, while on the boys side of Division II Luke Metzger and Colin Schadek of Fenwick also qualified as individuals. Madeira and Wyoming will play as teams at NorthStar on Friday and Saturday. The Fenwick girls play at the OSU Gray Course for their state meet.

Seven Hills and individual Joshua Winhusen from Middletown Christian will play for Division III titles at the OSU Scarlet Course.

Before the Division I tournaments on Oct. 22 and 23, district play was still needed to punch tickets to state.

The DI girls had districts at Glenview on Tuesday. Two of the three individual and team qualifiers came from Cincinnati.

Mason, who was also the sectional champion, shot a 305 to be district champions and advance to state. Runner-up Centerville shot a 313 and St. Ursula shot 320 for third place to also qualify for state.

Zoe Luebbers from St. Ursula was the individual champion, shooting 70 to win by two strokes. Mason's Demi Xie and Centerville's Morgan Rodgers each shot 72 to split the runner-up position.

Right after Rodgers and Xie on the scoreboard were the three individual state qualifiers.

Lilly Middleton from Wilmington shot 74, good for fourth place overall and the top individual qualifier spot. Just a stroke behind Middleton was Sycamore's Caroline Thompson and Greenville's Kenna Jenkinson who finished up the last of the Division I golfers to head to state.

The state field for the boys in Division I gets set on Thursday after the district tournament at Beavercreek Golf Club.

Golfers from La Salle, Turpin, Harrison, Moeller, Mason, St. Xavier, Elder, Lakota East, Springboro, Little Miami, Oak Hills, Milford, Monroe, Middletown, Sycamore, Taylor, Loveland and Talawanda will be among the competitors at the Division I district trying to make the trip to Columbus for the final meet of the season.
