Issue 3, dissected
In an election brimming with consequence, Issue 3 deserves your attention.
The amendment would change Cincinnati's charter in multiple, substantial ways, from how council members are paid to limiting the mayor's power to set council's agenda.
It's a complex initiative, so we broke it into seven parts, analyzing each piece separately.
We'll publish the final two pieces of the series this week, but you can catch up on the first five here.
International Freedom Conductor Awards
The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will honor its International Freedom Conductor Award recipients during a gala this Saturday.
The award recognizes people who have made a positive difference in contemporary freedom issues.
Actor George Clooney, who has deep local ties, is among the recipients, as is his wife Amal Clooney, a human rights attorney, Bryan Stevenson, founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, and John Lewis, a Congressman and civil rights icon, who died last year.
Find out more about the awards and previous recipients here.
2021 Women of the Year
For more than 50 years, The Enquirer's Women of the Year program has honored women who have made Cincinnati better.
This year's honorees have helped shape some of our community's most prominent institutions, from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and Christ Hospital to the Flying Pig Marathon.
This Thursday, we'll publish profiles and portraits of each of the honorees as they inspire the next generation of leaders. We will also recognize their accomplishments during a luncheon on Oct. 21. You can find ticket information here.

A reminder that Ohio's newest vaccine lottery, which awards scholarships to students ages 12-25, is taking entries this week.
The Vax-2-School program will give away $2 million in scholarships to people who have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The state was going to announce the winners this week, but that date has been pushed back, possibly to the end of the year.
