Butler County Sheriff’s Office investigating after communications system hacked


The Butler County Sheriff's Office said it's investigating after its communications center systems were hacked. Sheriff Richard Jones said once they found the malware activity in the system, they started to investigate and restore operations and the impact of the incident.Jones said the department is working with nationally recognized third-party cybersecurity consultants to help in their investigation.The sheriff's office said there has been no evidence so far that their information has been compromised and they will continue to monitor the incident."The safety and security of the public and county employees remains our top priority," the sheriff's office said in a release. "The Butler County Sheriff's Office and the Butler County Commissioner's IT staff are working around the clock to assure operations remain productive. We ask for the public's patience and our public safety partner's cooperation as we implement business continuity measure."The investigation is ongoing and the sheriff's office said it will provide updates as the investigation continues.
