Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase was named Thursday morning as the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Month.
From the Bengals via Twitter:
The Bengals' Twitter account retweeted statistics about the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft from @NFLResearch on Sunday with the comment, "Pretty good for a guy who 'can't catch the ball.'"
Chase caught four of his five targets for 65 yards and two touchdowns in the Bengals' 24-10 win in Pittsburgh.
In his first three NFL games, Chase has made 11 receptions for 220 yards with four touchdowns.
NFL analyst Brian Baldinger tweeted earlier this week that Chase was on the Steelers' 21-yard line when Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow threw him a touchdown pass Chase somehow caught up with in the end zone late in the first half on Sunday.
More from Bengals Communications:
Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase today was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for September. Through three weeks, Chase leads all NFL rookies in both receiving yardage (220) and TDs (four); his receiving TD total also is tied for second among all players.
Chase is one of just nine rookies ever to record at least one TD catch in each of their first three career games. He's also one of just three players ever to catch TDs of at least 25 yards in each of his first three career games. Additionally, Chase's two TDs on Sept. 26 at Pittsburgh made him the youngest player ever - and the first 21-year old - with four receiving TDs through their first three career games, edging out Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss' three TDs through three games in 1998.
Chase is the third Bengal to win an NFL Rookie of the Month award, which has been issued since 1996. RB Corey Dillon (1997) and QB Andy Dalton (2011) won it on offense, while LB Odell Thurman ('05) won it on defense.
