A Kenton County judge has sentenced a Park Hills man guilty of filming himself raping two girls to life in prison.
A jury convicted 31-year-old Joshua Robert Turner on July 28 of eightsex felonies, including the rape and sodomy of girls who were 12 and 7 at the time of the offenses in 2020.
Circuit Judge Kathleen Lape imposed the life sentence on Monday, rejecting a defense attorney's request to give his client a 40-year term, according to a news release from the Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney's office.
Lape said Turner had destroyed the innocence of the children and damaged the lives of many more people who had to deal with the fallout from his crimes, the release said.
"Joshua Turner gave those children a life sentence and now he gets one too," Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders said.
He said the case is "proof the justice system works. The police, prosecutors, the jury, and the judge... everyone did their jobs and our community is safer because of it."
Sanders said the children are in counseling.
Turner's former girlfriend testified during his trial that she found videos on his cell phone of him molesting the girls. She turned the phone over to the Park Hills police.
Investigators also found hundreds of photographs on the phone of the children being abused.
