The Middletown High School football game against Colerain High School scheduled for Friday evening has been moved from Middletown's football stadium to Colerain's stadium following a shooting involving teenagers. Middletown City Schools announced Thursday that the decision to move the football game from Barnitz Stadium follows the recommendation from Middletown Police Chief David Birk after recent incidents in the school district's neighborhoods, including a shooting where two teenagers were injured and two other teens were arrested."While decisions like these are never fun or easy, it is our duty to ensure the safety of our students, spectators, and visitors," Middletown City Schools wrote on its website.The shooting took place Thursday at 3 p.m. when Middletown police and fire officials responded to the 600 block of Louis Place for a report of gunshots. When they got there, they found two teen brothers, ages 15 and 17, suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the Atrium Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He said both are doing fine. Officers later charged two other teenage boys, who are also brothers aged 15 and 17, in the shooting. One teen, who fired the gun, was charged with two counts of felonious assault and the other teen with resisting arrest and falsification. The shooter was taken to a juvenile detention center and the other was released to his family. Chief Birk said after talking with school officials and community members he made the decision to move the game because at the time they were actively investigating."I stand by the decision it was best at the time. We have a job to make sure everybody is safe and to do that if I have to move a football game I will," Birk said. Birk said they're working with the school and community to prevent this from happening again. Superintendent Deborah Houser said they have extra staff at the high school for protection.On Tuesday, someone shot a BB gun or a pellet gun at a school bus carrying students in Middletown. School officials said it happened along an unspecified route Tuesday afternoon.The bus was carrying students from Middletown Prep, district officials said, when it was struck by some sort of air gun on the rear window of the bus.No one was wounded.District officials said the Middletown Police Department is investigating both incidents. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Middletown Police Dispatch at 513-425-7704.Also, Middletown City Schools is one of several school districts dealing with theft and vandalism that stems from the "Devious Licks" TikTok challenge, which encourages students to steal and destroy items at school.
