

"Lead, follow, or get out of the way." That quote, attributed to American political activist and philosopher Thomas Paine, should hang over the desk of West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin. The red state Democrat clearly loves his time in the limelight and being the contrarian has certainly gained Manchin a lot of attention. But Manchin's showboating and personal political calculus have stalled critical legislation that this country desperately needs. There are more important things than having one's face all over cable news. It's common sense.
Income inequality has reached staggering levels in the U.S. and round after round of tax cuts for the wealthy failed to produce "trickle down" benefits as promised. If anything, that's what we should all be mad about.
