Hundreds of Swimmers took the plunge in the Ohio River on the final Sunday of summer. The swimmers took a half mile dip across the Ohio River for the Bill Keating Jr. Great Ohio River Swim. This year was the third time Jim Osborne took the dive into the Ohio River.“The water was perfect. The temperature was good. The water was nice and clean, and I loved being around all those people. It was quite an experience.”Brandon Lecrone and his daughters also swam the half mile.“It’s a beautiful morning. The weather felt great. Its just kind of a great way to end the summer.”Organizer Caroline Keating launched the event after a 3-year hiatus. She says the event is racing towards a great cause. “We had over 200 swimmers show up to do the swim which is incredible we’ve had to cancel the event so it is really awesome to get it off this year.” While the hundreds of swimmers stroked toward better health, the annual swim supports Adventure Crew programs to expose inner city students to the outdoors. Water safety instructor Greta Lecrone swam with her dad and her sister.“I think it is full circle to teach kids and then come out here and be the example of this is what you can do and work up to, if you keep working hard.”For the hundreds who hit the water like Jim Osborne, they say the river swim leaves them forever changed, making new waves and treading deeper waters.“I’ve been swimming around Cincinnati all my life. This is just another example of what this community is about. Helping people be comfortable in the water. It’s a wonderful extension and a great part of this Ohio river swim.”
