The Hamilton County Health Department is leading the charge in vaccinating hundreds of health care workers. It is just one step into further protecting our communities against COVID-19. Vaccinations at the Sharonville Convention Center Wednesday were by appointment only and not yet open to the public. The department vaccinated 560 health care workers from Gov. Mike DeWine’s tier 1A group. The convention center vaccination model provided a trial run for when the COVID-19 vaccine is more widely available. The large space gave room for social distancing and several stations including check-in, distributing the shot and observation. Each person received the Moderna vaccine.“It's an important step in getting everybody back to normal, and I think the more people that get it, it's going to be a lot better for everybody,” said Angela Kotch, dental hygienistThe first shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Hamilton County on Dec. 21. Assistant Health Commissioner Craig Davidson says out of the 3,000 doses, 2,500 have been administered. “We’re doing everything we can with our partners to get all the doses out as quickly as we can,” said Davidson.Health officials say they have only hit the tip of the iceberg as it pertains to fully vaccinating communities. DeWine announced those 80 and older will be able to receive vaccinations starting next week.
