Xavier’s trip to Seton Hall postponed due to COVID-19

Xavier Musketeers head coach Travis Steele instructs the team during a timeout in the second half of an NCAA men's basketball game against the Providence Friars, Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, at Cintas Center in Cincinnati. The Xavier Musketeers won, 74-73.

Xavier University's men's basketball team will have to wait for that rematch with Seton Hall.

The school announced Thursday night that Saturday's game in New Jersey has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within Xavier's program.

Xavier released a statement on Twitter that said, "The Big East Conference announced that the Xavier men's basketball game at Seton Hall on Saturday has been postponed due to COVID-related issues in the XU program. No makeup date has been announced."

This is the second disruption Xavier's had this season within its own program. The Musketeers were also paused on Dec. 11.

Xavier shut down all team activities in December for seven days due to contact tracing, then returned to practice, and after nine days was able to play its next scheduled game.

The Musketeers started the season by playing seven games in the first 15 days of the season. They've now played just five games in the last 36 days.

The Enquirer will update this story if more information becomes available.
