Greater Cincinnati universities didn't place highly in national university rankings but fared much better in regional university rankings, according to a new study by U.S. News and World Report.
For its 37th annual list, the U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges rankings assessed over 1,400 bachelor's degree-granting colleges and universities across the country including some in Greater Cincinnati.
The rankings, released on Monday, are based on criteria covering nine broad areas including graduation and retention, graduate indebtedness, graduation rate performance, social mobility, faculty resources, expert opinion, financial resources, student excellence and alumni giving.
Xavier University had the highest ranking in its respective category compared to the region's other colleges and universities, coming in fifth among regional midwestern universities.
Here are the Greater Cincinnati college and university rankings:
- Xavier University; No. 5 in regional midwestern universities
- Mount St. Joseph University; No. 79 in regional midwestern universities
- Miami University – Oxford; No. 103 in national universities
- University of Cincinnati; No. 148 in national universities
- Northern Kentucky University; No. 299-391 in national universities
- Union Institute and University; No. 299-391 in national universities
