Former Cincinnati Reds prospect José Siri enjoyed a memorable first Major League Baseball start with the Houston Astros on Monday night, hitting two home runs - his first two as a big-leaguer - among his four hits and driving in five runs in a 15-1 win against the Texas Rangers.
Social media reactions:
Siri had a Midwest League-record 39-game hitting streak in 2017 with the Class-A Dayton Dragons. He joined the Astros as a non-roster invitee to Spring Training earlier this year after the Reds designated him for assignment in Jan. 2020.
Siri's encounter in March with St. Louis Cardinals catcher and long-time Reds nemesis Yadier Molina was the subject of a Jomboy Media video that was shared widely. In the video, Siri gestures toward Molina after Molina attempted to pick him off first base. Molina appears to dare Siri to steal second, and throws him out.
The Reds signed Siri out of the Dominican Republic in 2012.
