On Thursday, Cincinnati Reds outfielders Jesse Winker and Nick Castellanos were named MLB All-Star Game starters. MLB announced the rest of the All-Star game roster on Sunday, and Winker and Castellanos remain the only Reds on the roster.
The Reds have had at least two All-Stars every year since 2009, but they have only had three-or-more All-Stars in one of the last six All-Star games.

In 2019, starting pitchers Sonny Gray and Luis Castillo were Cincinnati’s two All-Stars. This year, the Reds have two position players in the event in Castellanos and Winker.
The Reds players who had the strongest case to make the field but missed the cut were starting pitcher Wade Miley and reliever Tejay Antone.

Entering Sunday’s game, Miley was one of 18 National League pitchers with at least 80 innings and an ERA at 3.09 or lower. Miley is joined on that list by some of the best pitchers in MLB, including Jacob deGrom of the New York Mets, Brandon Woodruff of the Milwaukee Brewers and Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals.
On that list of 18 pitchers, Miley ranked 18th in ERA, 11th in fielding independent pitching and 14th in opposing hitter’s OPS.
Tejay Antone has been one of the best relief pitchers in MLB, but he has been limited by injuries. Antone is on the injured list with a right forearm strain, and he has only pitched in five games in June.

Antone is still one of five relievers in the NL with at least 30 innings pitched and an ERA at 1.87 or below. Antone has allowed seven runs all season, and two of them came in his last appearances before going on the 10-day injured list.
Among that group of five pitchers, Antone ranks first in strikeout rate and second in fielding independent pitching.
