The Reds pulled even with the Padres in the wild-card standings

The Cincinnati Reds are tied with the San Diego Padres in the National League wild-card standings, after the Reds won Tuesday night in Chicago and the Padres lost at home to the Angels.

The Reds held on for a 4-3 win Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. In San Diego's 4-0 loss, three of the Angels' four pitchers - Packy Naughton, Jimmy Herget and Raisel Iglesias - were former Reds big-leaguers or minor-leaguers.

The Reds have 22 games remaining in the 2021 Major League Baseball season. The Padres have 24 games left.

The Reds are 74-66 entering Wednesday's series finale against the Cubs. The Padres have a 73-65 record, and play one more game against the Angels on Wednesday.

The Philadelphia Phillies trail the Reds and Padres by 2 games after a 10-0 loss Tuesday to the Brewers in Milwaukee. The St. Louis Cardinals trail both teams by 3 1/2 games after their 7-2 loss Monday to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The New York Mets are tied with the Cardinals - 3 1/2 back of Cincinnati and San Diego - after their 9-4 win Tuesday night against the Miami Marlins.
