Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has turned into one of the best in position in the NFL. The eighth-year pro was selected to his sixth-straight Pro Bowl this season, and the former Cincinnati Bearcats star is going to be playing in his second consecutive Super Bowl when the Chiefs meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.
Kelce caught six passes for 43 yards and a score in last year's 31-20 Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
He followed up his championship season with 105 receptions for 1,416 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.
Here are five things to know about Travis Kelce:
Travis Kelce comes from a football family
It's a pretty well-known fact that his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce (also a former Bearcat) is a four time Pro-Bowler.
But the brothers aren't the only football players in their family. Their uncle, Don Blalock, was a defensive lineman at Purdue and their grandfather, Don Blalock, played for Ohio University.
Travis Kelce was more than just a tight end for the Bearcats
As a redshirt freshman in 2009, Kelce was used as a Wildcat formation quarterback.
He only caught one pass for three yards in his first season, but he carried the ball eight times for 47 yards and two touchdowns.
Catching Kelce: Travis Kelce, reality star
In 2016 Kelce starred on E! Entertainment Television's "Catching Kelce" reality show.
The show was described as: "American football player Travis Kelce is known for catching passes as a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. As a pro football star and an eligible bachelor, Kelce is quite the catch himself. In the dating competition series "Catching Kelce," 50 women from 50 states vie to win the heart of the pro football player. With help from his famous friends and family, Kelce attempts to find the woman who will become his perfect teammate."
Travis Kelce, the second-highest paid tight end in the NFL
In the 2020 offseason Kelce and his friend, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, became the two highest-paid tight ends in NFL history.
Kelce signed with the Chiefs for a four-year, $57.25 million deal, and Kittle signed with the Niners for five-years and $75 million.
It's been a record-breaking 2020 season for Travis Kelce
Kelce set an NFL record for receiving yards during the 2020 regular season. His 1,416 yards topped the 1,377 yards by Kittle last season.
The AFC title game was also a record-breaker for Kelce. His 13 catches set a record for players in a conference championship game and he became the first tight end in NFL history to have five games with 100 receiving yards or more in the preseason.
