Thousands of Hamilton county teachers and staff will get their added layer of protection against COVID-19 this week. Once Ohio Gov. Mike Dewine gave the green light on teacher eligibility, local health departments and educational centers immediately got the ball rolling. The state requires schools to return back to in-person or hybrid learning by March 1, in order to receive vaccinations. Major distributors like Kroger, Tri-Health, Mercy Health and local pharmacies will aid in vaccinations.Vaccine deliveries are expected Monday and Tuesday. Hamilton County will complete 2,300 teacher and staff vaccinations on Wednesday, 1,800 Thursday, and 2,600 Friday. WLWT News 5 spoke to the man who’s leading the charge, superintendent of Hamilton County Educational Service Center, Chad Hilliker. He says there’s been a lot of work put into getting teachers vaccinated, but it’s worth it to finally see our local districts getting back on track. “It means so much to the educators a lot of them have been out there with the students early on some of them have been working remotely and this will finally ease their mind as they are working with their students,” said Hilliker. Hilliker says about 10% of Ohio will be vaccinated by the end of this week. Sycamore, Forest Hills and Deer Park schools are just some of several other districts vaccinating teachers this week.
