Yankees bring back ex-Reds pitcher on minor-league deal

Former Cincinnati Reds right-handed pitcher Sal Romano signed a minor-league contract Saturday with the New York Yankees, the team announced. It's his second stint with the team this season.

In two appearances for the Yankees last month, Romano struck out three of the 10 batters he faced, and allowed three hits.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Sal Romano (68) throws a pitch during the sixth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on July 29.

The Milwaukee Brewers announced earlier this week that they designated Romano for assignment.

In his debut last week for the Brewers, Romano allowed four runs - three of them earned - in a 9-6 home loss to the San Francisco Giants in 11 innings.

The Brewers had announced days earlier they claimed Romano off waivers from the Yankees.

Last month, the Yankees announced that pitcher Asher Wojciechowski was designated for assignment, and the team selected Romano from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Both pitched for the Reds in 2017, Wojciechowski's only season in Cincinnati.
