A missing boy from Middletown is believed to be dead and his mother and her boyfriend are now facing charges after admitting he was killed and his body was dumped into the Ohio River. Six-year-old James Hutchinson was reported missing Sunday morning by his mother, Brittany Gosney, 29, police said. Hours later, investigators said Gosney and her boyfriend, 42-year-old James Hamilton, told police the 6-year-old was killed in Preble County a few days ago. After he was killed, they said his body was brought back to Middletown where they live, and later put into the Ohio River.Court documents state that Gosney admitted to bringing her son, James, to Rush Run Park in Preble County. She told police she was going to leave him at the park but he attempted to get back into car and she took off, dragging him for a distance at a high rate of speed. Gosney left the park and returned 30 to 40 minutes later where she found 6-year-old James in the middle of the parking lot with injuries to his head, court documents said. Gosney told police at that moment she believed he was dead.According to court documents, Gosney said she picked James up and drove him to a home on Crawford Lane where she placed him in the upstairs bedroom. The next day, she drove to the Ohio River and dumped his body in the water.Trained search and rescue teams will begin searching the river Monday in an attempt to recover James' body.Gosney now faces charges of murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Hamilton faces charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.Both are set to be arraigned in court Monday. The Middletown Police Department is working with the Preble County Sheriff's Office, the Preble County Prosecutor and the Butler County Prosecutor.
