Miami University Athletics Hall of Famer Wayne Embry will soon have a statue dedicated at the main entrance of Oxford's Millett Hall.
He starred with fellow Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famers in an NBA Cares ad that aired during Sunday's NBA All-Star Game, encouraging people to get COVID-19 vaccines:
And in a video posted on NBA Alumni's Twitter account, the former Cincinnati Royals star talked about a pivotal moment in league history in which All-Stars voted to strike until their union was recognized and they had a pension:
MU hasn't yet announced a date for the dedication of Embry's statue, a creation from Tom Tsuchiya - who also has created Great American Ball Park's bronze statues of Cincinnati Reds legends. The university did announce last month that it will honor Embry and his late wife, Terri, with the Freedom Summer of '64 Award - bestowed by MU each year upon a distinguished leader who has inspired the nation to advance civil rights and social justice.
Embry, who turns 84 later this month, has served as a senior advisor for the Toronto Raptors since 2004.
