Jed DeMuesy is leaving WKRC Local 12.
DeMuesy, a weekend sports anchor at Local 12, has been with the station since 2013. He started as a producer and multimedia journalist, according to his bio on Local 12's website.
"This was my decision. I’m grateful for nearly eight years at the place I wanted to work ever since I was in college. I’ll miss my coworkers, SIDs, coaches, athletes so much. It’s been a pleasure," DeMuesy said in a tweet on Friday.
DeMuesy said he harbors no ill will toward anyone at Local 12, but the career move felt right after his parent company Sinclair announced potential layoffs.
"This felt like the right move for me," DeMuesy said Friday.
He's looking forward to having nights and weekends off. "I don't think people understand how hard journalists work."
Although he is leaving the journalism field and starting work in commercial real estate at Legacy Wealth Holdings, he plans to remain an avid sports fan. DeMuesy is hoping to tweet and even share his thoughts with his former colleagues, even if his thoughts aren't shared on air.
"I've always enjoyed making people laugh or groan," he said. "I'll still watch games the same way but now I just won't have a forum to share it."
His last day at Local 12 will be March 19.
"While he enjoys covering the Reds and Bengals, Jed is particularly interested in stories that may otherwise fly under the radar. In his spare time, Jed enjoys spending time with his wife, Sharon, and family and friends, especially if it involves a round of golf," DeMuesy's bio on Local 12's website said.
DeMusey is a native of the Buckeye State and grew up in Massillon, Ohio.
"I'm leaving with no ill will towards Local 12," he said. "Sometimes it's just time."
