One person is dead and another is injured after a crash closed Interstate 75 in Northern Kentucky for more than six hours. It happened just before midnight in the northbound lanes of the highway near the 173 mile marker in Walton, Kentucky. According to officials with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, a tow truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer. That crash caused David Matthews Jr., of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, to be ejected from the tow truck. Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene. Crash investigators say Matthews was the passenger in the tow truck. The driver of the tow truck, from Dayton, Ohio, was also injured. He was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with what police are calling non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured, officials said. Traffic in the area was at a standstill from midnight until 7:15 a.m., when northbound lanes of the highway were finally reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
