Coming off a yearlong recruiting dead period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 recruiting class was always going to be a priority.
One of the major priorities for Xavier University's men's basketball team was Tyrell Ward, a 6-foot-7 small forward from perennial power DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland.
Ward, a four-star prospect who's listed as the No. 49 player in the country by 247Sports' composite rankings, verbally committed to the Musketeers Monday.
Ward's composite ranking makes him the fifth-highest-rated recruit in program history – since the start of recruiting rankings – behind only Semaj Christon (31), Paul Scruggs (34), Trevon Bluiett (39) and Kenny Frease (40).
Ward chose Xavier over Virginia Tech, LSU, Maryland, Indiana, Miami (Fla.), Georgetown and Georgia.
Ward joins shooting guard Kam Craft on the list of Xavier's 2022 commits, giving the Musketeers a monster class in the making with two commitments from a pair of consensus top-100 players.

With two talented commitments already and the room to add either one or two more in 2022, Xavier's situated to post another highly-ranked national recruiting class.
Xavier head coach Travis Steele and assistant coach Jonas Hayes shared the workload on Ward's recruitment.
