Tow truck drivers put on show of solidarity for driver hit by car while working in West Price Hill


There was a heartwarming show of support Monday for a tow truck driver hit and injured on the job.A tow truck driver who works for the American Automobile Association was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car while working in the roadway in West Price Hill late Sunday night.It happened around 11:49 p.m. when the Cincinnati Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the 4000 block of Rapid Run Pike to investigate a serious injury traffic crash.Police said a tow truck driver was working in the roadway, putting a disabled car on the back of his tow truck, when he was hit by a car.The car also hit the tow truck and 2001 Mercedes-Benz which was being loaded onto the back of the tow truck.The tow truck driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he is being treated and listed in critical condition.Police said the driver, a 20-year-old man, sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and was treated at the scene by the Cincinnati Fire Department.On Monday night, a group of tow truck drivers gathered on Fifth Street in Queensgate in front of the AAA offices. Drivers put on the lights of their tow trucks in solidarity — all of them hoping their fellow driver recovers in the hospital.Any witnesses to this crash are asked to contact the Cincinnati Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
