Player of the Year
Max Klare, St. Xavier: Junior Klare was second in the Greater Catholic League South in average at .400 and led the league in home runs (4) and doubles (13). He was second in RBI with 30 and committed just two errors in 30 games for the league champion Bombers in center field.
Coach of the Year
Mark Thompson, Elder: Thompson recorded his 600th career win in 2021 and led the Panthers to a Division I state runner-up finish. It was Elder’s first appearance in the state tournament since 2010.

Sergio DeCello, Badin: The senior was fifth in the GCL-Coed in hitting at .455, third in homers with two and led the league in RBI with 35. His on-base percentage of .597 led the Rams who made it to the Division II state semifinals. DeCello also had 28 steals and was 1-0 as a pitcher with 14 strikeouts in 7.1 innings.

Brion Treadway, Badin: Treadway led the Rams to a 27-6 overall record and the GCL-Coed Division championship (12-1). Badin made their 13th state tournament appearance, falling short in the Division II state semifinals.

Jackson Campbell, Cincinnati Country Day: Campbell was Pitcher of the Year in the Miami Valley Conference and a second-team all-state selection by coaches, along with a Prep Baseball Report first-team pick. He was 7-2 with a 1.96 ERA, striking out 79 in 50 innings. As a hitter, he batted .356 with two homers, 23 RBI with 25 stolen bases.

Trevor Allen, Cincinnati Christian: Allen was named Division IV All-State Honorable Mention by the Ohio high school baseball coaches and Prep Baseball Report. He hit .450 driving in 22 runs as a junior. On the mound, he struck out 40 in 47.1 innings with a 2.96 ERA. Cincinnati Christian finished 16-9.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana
Player of the Year
Mitchell Berger, Beechwood – He was named NKAC Division II player of the year after helping the Tigers to the Ninth Region championship and the semi-state round of 16. Berger hit .400 with a team-high 37 RBI and also stole 15 bases. On the mound, he was 7-0 with a 1.39 ERA. Berger was also named second team all-state.
Co-coaches of the Year
Scott Schweitzer, Campbell County; and Kevin Gray, Beechwood – Gray and Schweitzer led their teams to the state tournament. Gray led the Tigers to their second consecutive Ninth Region championship with a 31-7 record, outlasting a competitive region including Covington Catholic in the regional final. Schweitzer led the Camels to the 10th Region championship after not being one of the favorites during the season. Both teams lost in the semi-state round of 16.

Player of the year
K.K. Mathis, Lakota West: A first-team All-Ohio selection, Mathis was dominant both at the plate and in the circle this season for the Firebirds. The senior led the Greater Miami Conference in homers (13) and RBI (50) while hitting .519. She led the league in ERA (1.47) and was tied for the lead in wins (20) to go with 191 strikeouts en route to GMC athlete of the year honors.
Coach of the year
Keith Castner, Lakota West: Castner was named the GMC coach of the year for the fifth time since 2006 after leading the Firebirds to 30-2 record, a league championship and a regional title. Lakota West made the state Final Four for the second time in three seasons.

Madi Ogden, Williamsburg: Ogden was first-team All-Ohio and was recently named the Ohio Gatorade Softball player of the year. The senior went 27-1 with 331 strikeouts over 168 2/3 innings while allowing just a handful of earned runs. Ogden was named the Southern Buckeye Conference National player of the year.

Andy Petridis, Boone County; and Jessica Verst, Pendleton County – Petridis led the Rebels to their first Ninth Region championship in 20 years, outlasting county rival Cooper in the regional final. Boone County finished 24-11 after losing in the semi-state round to Pendleton County, who won the 10th Region and advanced to the state quarterfinals for the second straight season behind Verst, who took over as head coach late in the season. She directed the LadyCats to a 7-6, extra-inning win over Harrison County just eight days after losing to them in the district final

Mick Clines, Bishop Brossart – The senior won three state championships to help the Mustangs to second place in the 1A state team championship. He ran in the 4-x-200 and 4-x-400 relays that won the title and won the 400 individually. At the regional meet, he won championships in the 200 and 400, and the 4-x-400, and finished second in the 100.
Field Athlete of the Year
Jake Davidson, Lloyd Memorial – The junior won the 1A state championship in the pole vault for the third straight season. He cleared 15 feet, 6 inches to break the 1A record and also best the 2A record, falling just six inches short of the overall state record.

Simone Bessong, Cooper – The eighth-grader won the 3A state championship in the 200 meters, and finished fourth in the 400 meters. She won regional championships in both of those events as well as the 4-x-400 relay.
Field Athlete of the Year
Brooklyn Hammons, Grant County – The junior won the 3A state championship in both the shot put and the discus. She won the shot put in 43 feet, 4 inches, a foot ahead of second place and just 3.5 inches off the 3A and overall state meet record. She rewrote the book in the discus, throwing it 143 feet, 9 inches to win by more than 25 feet. The throw shattered the existing 3A meet record, which had occurred in 1981, by more than nine feet. Hammons broke the overall state meet record by 19 inches, set in the 2A state meet in 2015. She also won regional championships in both events.

Player of the Year
Megan Carroll, Mason: The senior attack led the Greater Miami Conference in assists with 42 and was fourth in goals with 60 for the league champs. Carroll was one of three Southwest Ohio girls to be named All-State First Team by the Ohio High School Girls Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Coach of the Year
Andrea Setser, Loveland: In her first year as head coach, the Tigers made the Division I state semifinals. They finished 17-5 overall and were a perfect 7-0 to win the Eastern Cincinnati Conference for the third time in four seasons.

Players of the year
Jordan Bezold and Joe Bezold, Covington Catholic – The Colonels’ top boat finished fifth in the KHSAA state tournament out of 88 boats. They caught the maximum of 10 bass in the two-day tournament, totaling 24 pounds, 4 ounces. They finished 11th in the Region 2 meet out of 105 boats, catching five fish totalling 13 pounds, 9 ounces.
