Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was in the crowd with his father, Jimmy, at Indianapolis' Hinkle Fieldhouse for the Ohio Bobcats' NCAA Tournament second-round game - a 72-58 loss Monday night to the Creighton Bluejays.
Play-by-play broadcaster Ian Eagle mentioned that the Burrows were in attendance as they were shown during TNT's broadcast. Former Xavier Musketeers head coach Thad Matta, the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes when current Ohio head coach Jeff Boals was an assistant at OSU, also was on hand for the game.
On Saturday, Joe offered his congratulations via Twitter to the Bobcats, a No. 13 seed in the NCAA Tournament West Region, after they knocked off No. 4 Virginia, 62-58, at Indiana University's Assembly Hall. It was among social media reactions shared after Ohio's memorable win.
Joe graduated from Athens High School, near Ohio University's campus. He moved with his family to the Athens area at a young age when Jimmy became the defensive coordinator for the Bobcats' football team - a position Jimmy held from 2005 to 2018.
Last month, Joe was at UD Arena to watch former Athens High School teammate Ibi Watson of the Dayton Flyers score 20 points in a win against George Mason.
Joe has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars through the Joe Burrow Hunger Relief Fund he established to help the Athens County Food Pantry since addressing poverty in Southeast Ohio during his Heisman Trophy acceptance speech in 2019.
