Ohio House Republicans added an amendment that would ban transgender athletes to a bill allowing college athletes to profit from their name, image and likeness on Thursday.
The amendment passed 54-40 and would prevent transgender athletes from competing in girl's sports.
The bill passed 57-36, and needs approval by the Ohio Senate before going to Gov. Mike DeWine for his signature. Lawmakers also removed an emergency clause that allowed the original bill to take effect immediately.

Prominent Ohio coaches pushed for the bill to be passed as many states will have NIL legislation begin in July. Ohio State football coach Ryan Day testified during a committee hearing earlier this month on the importance of the bill. It unanimously passed out of the committee.
