1 injured in Covington house fire


At least one person was injured in a house fire in Covington Wednesday evening. Firefighters responded to the 1400 block of Garrard Street at around 8:48 p.m. The building houses five different apartments.According to Covington fire chief Mark Pierce, the fire was on the third floor of the home.When firefighters entered the home, they found man inside. That man was taken to an area hospital and his condition remains unknown at this time."I was praying that he wasn't in there but when they brought him out on the stretcher... He is one of the best guys you will ever meet. I mean kindest guy ever," said Mark Johnson who lives inside the building.Fire crews are now in cleanup and investigation mode. It's unclear how the fire started.Pierce said six to eight people have been displaced and the American Red Cross has been notified.WLWT will update this story when more information is available.
