A pandemic has kept both new music venues along the Ohio River silent.
But music is on the way.
The Andrew J. Brady Icon Music Center on Monday announced its first musical acts.
The first announcement was for a show next year. The pop trio AJR will play the outdoor stage on May 10, 2022. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
A few hours later, the venue announced a show for the fall. Mt. Joy and Trampled by Turtles will play the venue on Sept. 25, 2021.
They are the first concerts announced for either of the two riverfront venues just completed along the Ohio River, the other being PromoWest Pavilion at Ovation in Newport. Concerts have yet to be announced at the Newport venue.
While these are the first concert announcements, they won't likely be the first concerts.
The music venue management told The Enquirer they expect to have more shows in the fall or possibly summer.
Why are the dates so far out? Acts haven't started touring yet, said Mike Smith, president of Music and Events Management Inc., the owner and operator of the music venue at The Banks.
"The most important thing is the ability for tours to confidently move city to city to city," Smith said. "You don’t want to play one place then have four days off."
