Troy Walters believes in Ja’Marr Chase and the Bengals wide receivers

During his first practice as the Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers coach last week, Troy Walters looked at the group of receivers in front of him. He said that on paper, they could be one of the best groups in the NFL. But, he added, teams don’t win championships on paper.

That’s where Walters set the bar for a wide receiver group that includes No. 5 pick Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, one of the best rookie receivers in the NFL last season, and Tyler Boyd, one of the most productive slot receivers in the NFL.

“Everyone knows those three, but I want the entire unit to be one of the best in the league,” Walters told The Enquirer. “I want our No. 1 through No. 10 receivers to be the best in the league.”

Tyler Boyd has been a mainstay in the Bengals' receiving corps and now he'll team with second-year man Tee Higgins and rookie Ja'Marr Chase.

One of Bengals head coach Zac Taylor’s first moves this offseason was to promote Walters from the team’s assistant wide receiver coach to the team’s head wide receiver coach. The Bengals hired Walters in 2020 after he had spent four years as an offensive coordinator at Central Florida and Nebraska.
