Junior at Elder H.S. using video to help seniors who likely won't have graduation ceremony

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - It's about this time of year when high school seniors start to count the days, but the class of 2020 has no idea if they'll even get a graduation day like the classes that came before them. So, they're getting creative.

They are the moments students dream about: graduation, getting a diploma and celebrating with family. But the likelihood that happens in Ohio this year is in extreme doubt.

“No one knows what’s going to happen. Who knows if we’re back?” said Elder High School junior Adam Duwel.

If that happens, Duwel is preparing a special gift for the class of 2020.

“It’s going to give seniors a platform to just kind of talk about their classes and stuff. They might not be able to give those graduation speeches or anything,” he said.

The call went out on Twitter, asking high school seniors to be a part of a video project called “Dear Class of 2020.”

Almost instantly, videos and messages came pouring in. Some came as far as Chicago, Atlanta and Houston and, of course, Elder High School.

The messages will no doubt be emotional and show frustration, but some will also point toward the future.

Duwel hopes the video gives seniors robbed of that tassel-turning, gown-wearing day something they can have forever.
