CINCINNATI (WKRC) - An 18-year-old has now been arrested for a series of attacks and robberies in downtown and Over-the-Rhine.
Cincinnati Police say Donte Cammon was working with two juveniles.
The sidewalk in front of the Gateway Garage on 12th street in OTR is a popular way to get from Main Street to Vine Street. Kenneth Wright and his friend Chris were walking that way around 9 p.m. Thursday when they felt a tap on their shoulders.
“It happened, really, really quickly and very unexpectedly. That smile to a punch was very extreme. So it took us off guard very much so,” Wright said.
The three young men attacked. A security camera caught an image of the trio. Two are juveniles, but one has been identified as Cammon. The 18-year-old is in jail charged with three counts of robbery. Two of the charges are for trying to steal from Wright and his friend, who were also repeatedly punched and kicked.
“We were scared. Chris’s nose was broken. He was bleeding profusely from his nose. My hands were bleeding profusely. There's holes in my pants at my knees from being thrown down. Lots of bruising appeared the next day,” said Wright.
Wright, who’s lived in the downtown/OTR area for more than a decade, says it’s the first time something like this has ever happened. It’s shaken his sense of security.
“It’s really scary. Any time, any place just out of the blue this can happen,” he said.
Cincinnati Police say the trio is also responsible for standing in the street to get a driver to stop. Then they forced their way into the vehicle.
They did get property from two of the victims. Police haven't said if that was money or items.
Police said the recent incidents happened last Thursday. They're looking to see if the trio is connected to other similar robberies over the past several months.
