A significant winter storm is expected to bring rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow with the potential to cause power outages and have significant impacts on the roads.

1

Winter storm timeline

Rain changes over to freezing rain and/or sleet by sunrise Thursday. Roads should be not too bad early Thursday but deteriorate by mid-morning.

As of now, our switch to snow happens Thursday evening/night. Snow totals will be highest in the northwest. Meanwhile, ice totals will be higher in the southeast.

2

Snow and ice potential

WLWT Channel 5 meteorologists are watching computer models closely as the storm nears. As of right now, the greatest accumulation of snow will be northwest of Interstate 71, with a sleet storm for many with freezing rain accumulations up to a quarter-inch possible. As of now, more sleet than ice is expected. Snow will end Friday morning with some accumulations possible, around 2 to 4 inches.

3

Commute impact

A winter storm warning will be in effect late Wednesday evening into Friday morning as power outages and tree damage are likely due to ice, making travel "nearly impossible." Travel is strongly discouraged after mid-morning Thursday.

4

Biggest issue

The biggest issues differ depending on where you live. In metro Cincinnati, the biggest issue will be a messy mix of snow and ice. North of the metro will see the most snow in the area. South of the metro area will see the most ice accumulations.

5

Winter Storm Warning

The entire WLWT viewing area is under a winter storm warning.
