Loveland Bike Trail to remain open for summer; construction rescheduled for October



YOU GUESSED IT, ON THE MOON. WELL, HAPPY TRAILS. THE LOVELAND BIKE TRAIL WILL REMAIN OPEN THIS SUMMER. OFFICIALS HAVE WORKED OUT A PLAN NOW TO MOVE CONSTRUCTION UNTIL THE FALL. WLWT NEWS 5 DANIELLE VAN DYCK JOINING US FROM LITTLE MIAMI TONIGHT WITH THE REACTION FROM BUSINESS OWNERS AND CYCLISTS. AND DANIELLE, I BET PEOPLE ARE JUST THRILLED TO HEAR THIS BECAUSE THIS WAS GOING TO BE A BIG AND CONVENIENCE TREE. AND WHAT A PERFECT DAY TO GET THIS NEWS. THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE OUT ON THE TRAILS EARLIER TODAY. THEY WERE REALLY SOAKING IN THE SUN WITH EACH STROKE OF THE PEDAL. AND THE GOOD NEWS FOR THEM IS THAT THIS TRAIL WON’T CLOSE ANY TIME SOON. IT’S TIME TO GEAR UP, GRAB YOUR HELMETS AND TAKE A SPIN, WHETHER YOU’RE ON A BIKE OR TAKING A STROLL WITH YOUR FOUR LEGGED FRIEND. THERE’S A LOT TO LOVE ABOUT THE LOVELAND BIKE TRAIL. THE HOUSE EARLY ISN’T FLAT, SO THAT WAS PERFECT. THE FLOWERS ARE STARTING TO BLOOM AND IT’S JUST REALLY NICE BY THE RIVER AND EVERYONE ON THE BIKE RIDE WAS REALLY NICE AND IT’S SAFE AND JUST A REALLY GOOD TIME FOR BUSINESS OWNERS IN THE AREA. IT’S THE CUSTOMERS LOVE THEM, BIKE TRAILS, EVERYTHING. A LOT OF THESE BUSINESSES DOWN HERE BRINGS, OF COURSE, ECONOMY IN. PEOPLE LOVE TO RIDE IT. THAT ALONG WITH THE RIVER THE TRAIL AND BRIDGE WERE INITIALLY SCHEDULED TO UNDERGO CONSTRUCTION NEXT MONTH. CLOSING SECTIONS FOR THE ENTIRE SUMMER CYCLING SEASON FROM MAY TO OCTOBER. WELL, AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED. I THOUGHT, OH, YOU KNOW, THAT’S OUR OUR BUSY SEASON. BUT NOW IT’S HAPPY TRAILS. OHIO REPRESENTATIVE JEAN SCHMIDT WORKED WITH THE CITY OF LOVELAND AND ODNR TO PUSH BRIDGE REPAIRS DOWN THE ROAD TO BEGIN IN OCTOBER. LITTLE MIAMI RIVER CHAMBER CELEBRATING THE CHANGE ON SOCIAL MEDIA, POSTING, QUOTE, OUR SHOPS AND RESTAURANTS, ESPECIALLY IN DOWNTOWN LOVELAND, DEPEND HEAVILY ON THE BIKE TRAIL TRAFFIC. WE ALSO WANT OUR COMMUNITY TO ENJOY THE TRAIL THROUGHOUT THE WARMER MONTHS, AND WE ARE ELATED THE TRAIL WILL BE OPEN FOR EVERYBODY. IS GOING TO BE, YOU KNOW, NOTHING BUT BLUE SKIES, WE HOPE. AND GOOD SALES AND HAPPY PEOPLE WALKING IN OUR RESTAURANT. IT’S ALSO WELCOME NEWS FOR MANY FAMILIES. THEY JUST MOVED HERE FROM NORTH CAROLINA AND HIT THE TRAIL FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY. WE’VE ALREADY TALKED ABOUT COMING OUT EVERY DAY JUST TO TAKE SOME NICE EXERCISE IN AND HAVE A GOOD TIME TOGETHER. THEY PLAN TO CYCLE BACK AND TAKE ANOTHER SPIN, BUT WE HAVE A GOOD TIME OUT HERE. The Loveland Bike Trail will remain open this summer!The Department of Natural Resources had previously announced it was going to close the trail for repair from May to October.Schmidt worked with the city of Loveland and ODNR to push back the bridge repairs."The paths are nice and flat so that was perfect," cyclist Caroline Tanner said. "The flowers are starting to bloom and it's just really nice by the river. And everyone on the bike ride was really nice, and it's safe and just a really good time."The Little Miami River Chamber posted on social media reacting to the news saying, "Our shops and restaurants, especially in downtown Loveland, depend heavily on bike trail traffic. We also want our community to enjoy the trail throughout the warmer months and we are elated the trail will be open."For business owners in the area, it's the customers."Loveland Bike trails means everything," Paxton's Grill co-owner Ralph Dunnigan said.Construction on the bike trail will now begin in October.
