Former University of Cincinnati Bearcats standout Derek Wolfe, a defensive end for the Denver Broncos for the first eight seasons of his NFL career, announced his retirement Friday in a video released on the Broncos' Twitter account.

"After 10 seasons in the NFL, I've decided it's time to step away from the game," Wolfe, 32, said in the video. "Time for a new beginning."
The Broncos selected Wolfe - the 2011 co-Big East Defensive Player of the Year - out of UC in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Wolfe won a Super Bowl ring with the Broncos at the end of the 2015 season. He had a career-best seven sacks in the 12 games in which he played during the 2019 season.
Wolfe signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens in March 2020. He played in 14 games during the 2020 season. Baltimore re-signed Wolfe to a three-year, $12 million contract - including a $5.4 million signing bonus - in March 2021. He missed all of last season with hip and back injuries.
He reached an injury settlement with the Ravens last month after he revealed on social media that he had his second hip surgery of the year.
Wolfe recorded 350 tackles and 34 sacks over 10 seasons.
