Northern Kentucky organizations, communities rally to support Kentuckians impacted by tornado damage

Churches, police departments, school districts and relief organizations across northern Kentucky are lending a helping hand to fellow Kentuckians impacted by the weekend's devastating storms."It's so easy to think that tragedy, you're exempt from it until it knocks on your door," said Kyle Waid of 7 Hills Church. The Florence church immediately wrote a $50,000 check to support their partner organization, Convoy of Hope."What we're able to do with Convoy of Hope, our partner, is when devastation, tragedy -- whether it be a hurricane or tornado -- when it hits, we keep their warehouse stocked up with supplies so they can immediately be boots on the ground," Waid said.More boots on the ground are crucial at a time when supplies people need are scarce. The Newport Police Department is also gathering support for western Kentucky residents. The department is accepting donations like water bottles, paper towels, diapers, nonperishable foods and toiletries for the community of Mayfield.The items collected by Newport police will be delivered as soon as Monday, Dec. 13. Those who wish to donate items can bring them to the Newport City Building.
