Cincinnati Reds-San Diego Padres delayed until 8 p.m for rain delay

The Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres will be delayed about 50 minutes for their series opener Tuesday because of thunderstorms in the area at Great American Ball Park.

First pitch is now scheduled for 8 p.m.

The game was initially delayed because of lightning in the area. The tarp was pulled off the field by the grounds crew around 7:28 p.m.

Reds rookie Tony Santillan will make his fourth MLB start. Craig Stammen, who grew up near Dayton, will start for the Padres in a bullpen game. Padres lefty Blake Snell was scratched from Tuesday's game because of an illness.
