The Kansas City Chiefs announced Saturday that they've ruled out running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire for Sunday's Week 17 showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium after the running back missed a third consecutive day of practice with a shoulder injury he suffered during a Week 16 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Edwards-Helaire will not travel with the Chiefs to Cincinnati, per the team's announcement via Twitter:
Edwards-Helaire left the game against the Steelers during the third quarter because of the injury. He did not participate in the Chiefs' practices Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
The Chiefs' injury report Friday lists Edwards-Helaire as "questionable."
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported via Twitter on Monday that Edwards-Helaire had swelling but no structural damage, and the injury is not season-ending:
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that it will be challenging for Edwards-Helaire to play against the Bengals on Sunday:
Edwards-Helaire entered Sunday's game with just 490 rushing yards on 110 carries with 125 receiving yards on 18 catches, having played in just nine games this season. He had 803 rushing yards and 297 receiving yards last season, his first with the Chiefs.
Nonetheless, the Chiefs led the Steelers, 30-3, through three quarters.
Edwards-Helaire was an LSU teammate of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who set a franchise record in the Bengals' win last weekagainst Baltimore with 525 passing yards.
Chiefs tight end and former Cincinnati Bearcats standout Travis Kelce is expected to return against the Bengals after missing Kansas City's Week 16 game:
