OHSAA computer rankings have Moeller, Kings, Badin, Mariemont on top

A day after the initial Ohio Sportswriter's Association poll was released declaring St. Xavier High School as the top Division I football team, the OHSAA computer ratings, provided by JoeEitel.com, provide a difference of opinion.

After four weeks, thenumbers that ultimately determine playoff slottinghave Moeller's 4-0 Crusaders as the top Division I team in Region 4. Rounding out the top eight (in order) are St. Xavier, Milford, Lakota East, Lakota West, Princeton, Colerain and Mason.

Based on the rating, Friday night's Moeller vs. St. Xavier contest at the University of Cincinnati's Nippert Stadium is now a No. 1 vs. No. 2, at least in the eyes of mathematicians.

In previous years, eight from each region qualified. Last year, due to the coronavirus pandemic limiting schedules, every team that opted in qualified for the postseason.

This year, based on offseason changes, 16 teams from each region will qualify. So, if the season ended today, the No. 1 seed Moeller would play the No. 16 seed, which is now a tie between Lebanon or Oak Hills. Only one team in Division I, Region 4, will not make the playoffs.

Division III features Badin as the No. 1 team in Region 12, followed by Ross at No. 2. Ross will be at Badin Saturday night with the game being played at Edgewood High School. There are 27 area teams in Region 12.
