New coronavirus cases saw a decline in the Ohio counties in Greater Cincinnati, and a rise in Northern Kentucky in the week ending Sunday, a week that included the Labor Day holiday.
Statewide, new COVID-19 cases increased 10% in Ohio last week as the state added 45,427 cases. The previous week had 41,303 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

Ohio ranked 18th among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States decreased 11.9% from the week before, with 1,010,209 cases reported. With 3.51% of the country's population, Ohio had 4.5% of the country's cases in the last week. Across the country, 19 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.
Some governments may have delayed reporting across the Labor Day holiday, and people who normally would have been tested might not have been tested then. Week-to-week comparisons may be inaccurate.
In Greater Cincinnati, Hamilton County reported 2,645 cases and one death in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 2,825 cases and three deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 93,837 cases and 1,305 deaths.
Butler County reported 1,262 cases and zero deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 1,460 cases and one death. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 45,363 cases and 646 deaths.
Clermont County reported 914 cases and zero deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 1,102 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 24,369 cases and 275 deaths.
Warren County reported 861 cases and zero deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 1,084 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 28,797 cases and 323 deaths.
In Northern Kentucky, Boone County reported 519 cases and two deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 505 cases and two deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 17,247 cases and 164 deaths.
Kenton County reported 615 cases and five deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 591 cases and four deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 20,013 cases and 224 deaths.
Within Ohio, the worst weekly outbreaks on a per-person basis were in Pike County with 1,102 cases per 100,000 per week; Scioto County with 953; and Morgan County with 896. The Centers for Disease Control says high levels of community transmission begin at 100 cases per 100,000 per week.
Adding the most new cases overall were Franklin County, with 3,695 cases; Cuyahoga County, with 3,077 cases; and Hamilton County, with 2,645. Weekly case counts rose in 65 counties from the previous week. The worst increases from the prior week's pace were in Cuyahoga, Stark and Lorain counties.

Ohio ranked 38th among states in share of people receiving at least one shot, with 53.3% of its residents at least partially vaccinated. The national rate is 63.1%, a USA TODAY analysis of CDC data shows. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which are the most used in the United States, require two doses administered a few weeks apart.
In the week ending Sunday, Ohio reported administering another 145,386 vaccine doses, including 67,488 first doses. In the previous week, the state administered 96,532 vaccine doses, including 46,013 first doses. In all, Ohio reported it has administered 11,844,600 total doses.
Across Ohio, cases fell in 23 counties, with the best declines in Warren County, with 861 cases from 1,084 a week earlier; in Butler County, with 1,262 cases from 1,460; and in Clermont County, with 914 cases from 1,102.
In Ohio, three people were reported dead of COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. In the week before that, 51 people were were reported dead.
A total of 1,298,625 people in Ohio have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 21,154 people have died from the disease, Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the United States 40,955,201 people have tested positive and 659,970 people have died.
