The Reds’ wild-card lead over the San Diego Padres is two games

The Cincinnati Reds increased their lead over the San Diego Padres to two games in the National League wild-card standings with 33 games remaining in the 2021 Major League Baseball season with a 5-1 win in Thursday's series finale against the Brewers in Milwaukee, as the Padres lost 4-0 to complete a series sweep by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Padres' loss was their 12th in 14 games. The Reds - despite losing the first two games of their series against the first-place Brewers - have won nine of 14 with Thursday's victory.

The Reds are 70-59, and the Padres are 68-61 entering Friday's games. The Reds face the Marlins in Miami, and the Padres play two road games against the Angels before a day off Sunday.
