Retired attorney, conservative firebrand and self-described "legal outlaw" Eric Deters will mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with a rally for Donald Trump supporters.
He wants thousands of Trump loyalists to come to his 138-acre farm in Morning View, Ky. south of Covington for "Freedom Fest" on the evening of Sept. 11. Freedom Fest is free, no tickets or registration required. Deters said he's "planning for thousands."
Former Trump advisor and Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is currently dating Donald Trump Jr., will speak at the event, as will Fox News personality Tomi Lahren, Deters said.
Messages to Guilfoyle and Lahren weren't immediately returned Monday.
"Everyone knows I'm pro-Trump, conservative, Libertarian, anti-establishment," Deters told The Enquirer. "I'm a legal outlaw. I don't commit crimes but I'm very much anti-establishment. One day, I thought to myself, there's a lot of like-minded people like me with pent-up frustration relative to censorship, mandates on vaccines and masks."
He said he wanted to have a festival for these "like-minded people."
Why on Sept. 11?
"It turns out, Sept. 11, Patriot's Day, falls on a Saturday," Deters said.
Patriot Day isn't a federal holiday but a national day of observance to memorialize the 2,977 people killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Deters said he doesn't see a conflict having a celebration of Trump on a solemn day.
"There is no better day to hold a Freedom Fest than on Sept. 11 which is called Patriot's Day," he said. "Trump was champion of common everyday people. I love him. I think he was an outstanding president."
Deters said he's not afraid of any controversy the rally might bring. He's had plenty of controversy over his troubled legal career. His comments and court filings have incurred the wrath of multiple judges. His Kentucky law license has been suspended for about eight years. In 2014, he permanently retired from practicing law in Ohio.
A judge this month ordered Deters to pay $6,500 for engaging in the unauthorized practice of law by giving legal advice to two clients of the firm he runs in an administrative role.
A Hamilton County judge in 2020 banned Deters from the Hamilton County courthouse for comments Deters made on his podcast, "The Bulldog."
Deters still hosts a podcast and runs a conservative news site, Bulldog Reports.
Freedom Fest will run from 4 p.m.-10 p.m. at his farm, 13894 Madison Pike in rural Kenton County south of Covington and Independence. The free event will feature music and a fireworks show at night in addition to speeches from Lahren and Guilfoyle.
Deters said he's paying for the event himself, though he wouldn't say how much he's spending.
"I can only say it's worth every nickel," Deters said.
It is not the only pro-Trump event being held in Kentucky on Sept. 11. An event advertised in Muhlenberg County in western Kentucky as "the biggest patriot rally of the year" will have Trump's former national security advisor Michael Flynn and several prominent Trump supporters and purveyors of conspiracy theories regarding the 2020 election, including attorney Lin Wood and My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell.
